Whether you use your snowmobile for transportation or just for fun, insuring it is essential.
Not only are you legally required to insure your snowmobile in Canada if you drive it off your property, having snowmobile insurance protects you and your family from the financial consequences of an accident.
Talk to your Western Coast insurance expert about purchasing snowmobile insurance. We have the knowledge and expertise to guide you through this process.
Mandatory snowmobile insurance
Just like driving a car, a snowmobile (also called a Ski-Doo, which is a brand) can be dangerous and you need the same type of insurance. The exact insurance requirements for snowmobiles/Ski-Doos may be slightly different from province to province, but you do need to have third-party liability insurance across Canada.
Third-party liability insurance
Third-party liability insurance protects you from legal and medical fees if you are liable for an injury or death. It also covers property damage caused by your snowmobile to someone else.
Most provinces require you to have a minimum of $200,000 in liability insurance, but it is advisable to have $1 or $2 million in coverage because of the potentially high cost of an accident.
Uninsured motorist insurance
Many provinces require drivers to have uninsured motorist insurance, which covers them for injuries sustained in an accident with an uninsured motorist or in a hit-and-run.
Accident benefits insurance
Accident benefits coverage helps you with expenses if you are injured while riding your snowmobile. Some provinces require you to have it.
Your Western snowmobile insurance expert will answer any questions you may have about which types of snowmobile insurance are mandatory in your province or territory and what policy is right for you.
Bundling snowmobile insurance
Also, you can bundle your snowmobile/Ski-doo insurance with trailer and truck insurance. Talk to your Western insurance expert about this and we’ll help you get it done.
In addition to mandatory snowmobile insurance, you may want to consider some optional forms of coverage.
Collision insurance protects your snowmobile from damage caused by a collision with another snowmobile, vehicle, or object. If your snowmobile is new or you could not afford to repair extensive damage to it, you may want this type of coverage.
Comprehensive insurance for your snowmobile covers damage to it caused by something other than a collision. For example, if your snowmobile is damaged by extreme weather or fire, or is stolen or vandalized, this type of coverage would help you repair or replace it.
