Part of your community

Brokers who live
and give back here.

Sooke is known for its coastal scenery, tight-knit community and access to nature. From Sooke Potholes and the Galloping Goose Trail to local beaches, parks and neighbourhood shops, we’re proud to support our community throughout the area.

Whether you’re a long-time homeowner near Sooke Harbour, buying in Sunriver, updating a home in Broomhill, commuting toward the Westshore or running a business in the town core, your coverage needs will be different from your neighbour's. For coastal homes near Whiffin Spit or rural properties in East Sooke, Otter Point and Shirley, your property, business, or car will have unique considerations.

Your insurance should reflect your home, vehicle, business and how you actually use them. Our brokers can help you take a personalized look at what makes sense for you rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

Local questions worth asking

Sooke risks to review with your broker

Your location near the coast, the forest and the Highway 14 corridor shape the questions we ask. Our Sooke brokers with Western Coast Insurance Services can help you understand what your policy covers, what it doesn’t and whether there are additional options worth considering for your address.

Wildfire Beside the Forest

Most Sooke neighbourhoods sit next to wilderness, and Sooke’s FireSmart program has offered free property assessments to help homes withstand wildfire. If your Broomhill, Sunriver or rural property borders trees, tell us about access, fire protection and recent improvements so we can review fire coverage, evacuation wording and rebuilding limits.

Ask your Sooke broker

What limits apply if an evacuation order forces me to leave my home?

Review home insurance options

Windstorms, Trees and Power Outages

Coastal storms can affect Sooke’s homes, roads and power. We can help you review coverage for damage from wind or falling trees, along with any limits for extra living costs and personal losses while repairs are made.

Ask your Sooke broker

Would a power outage alone trigger any benefits, or does my policy require insured damage?

Explore home insurance

Highway 14 Commutes

Highway 14 connects Sooke with the Westshore and communities farther west. A new commute, picking up delivery work, or adding a different regular driver in the family are all a good reason to speak with your broker before your next renewal, so your coverage reflects how your vehicle is really used.

Ask your Sooke broker

Does my policy reflect how often I commute, who drives and any business use?

Review car insurance & ICBC

Earthquake and Your Share of a Claim

Earthquake preparedness matters on southern Vancouver Island. Earthquake coverage isn’t included in a standard BC home policy, but it can usually be added. Ask our Sooke team to explain the deductible using your own coverage limits, so you can see the dollar amount.

Ask your Sooke broker

How much would I pay myself, and what applies to my home, belongings and temporary accommodation?

Your local broker, your questions

Insurance FAQs for Sooke

Moving to Sooke, living rural or need driver services? Here are a few questions Sooke customers often ask.

What types of insurance can I get at Western Coast’s Sooke broker?

Our Sooke brokers can help with ICBC renewals and optional car insurance, home, condo and tenant insurance, business insurance, life and travel insurance. The options available will depend on the insurer, what you’re insuring and your individual circumstances.

Can I get driver licensing services at the Sooke insurance office?

Yes. Our Sooke broker is open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and driver services close at 4:30 p.m. Call us before you visit so we can confirm our current hours and which identification to bring.

I’m moving to Sooke from another province. Can you help me transfer my licence and insurance?

Yes. We can help you transfer your driver’s licence and set up ICBC insurance for your vehicle. Bring your identification, your current licence and any driving-history records from your previous insurer. Confirm your new coverage and dates before cancelling existing policies.

Can I work with the Sooke team if I live in East Sooke, Otter Point or Shirley?

Yes. Our Sooke brokers also help customers in East Sooke, Otter Point, Shirley and Jordan River. Start with a call or fill out our quote form to tell us where you live and what you need to insure. We’ll let you know whether your request needs an office visit or if we can handle it online.

What does ICBC Basic Autoplan include?

ICBC Basic Autoplan is mandatory for every vehicle registered in BC. It includes $200,000 in third-party liability coverage, Enhanced Accident Benefits for injury care and recovery, Underinsured Motorist Protection of up to $1 million per insured person, and inverse liability where local laws don’t let you claim against the other driver. Many Sooke drivers add optional coverage such as extended third-party liability, collision and comprehensive. Our brokers can help you review which options fit how you drive.

What should I tell my broker about a rural property outside Sooke?

Tell us about the property’s year-round or seasonal use, access, outbuildings, heating, water supply and fire protection. Include any rentals, home business or work on the land. Those details help us find suitable options and explain anything else an insurer needs.

Is earthquake insurance included with home insurance in Sooke?

No. Standard home insurance in BC does not include earthquake coverage, but it can usually be added as an endorsement. Earthquake preparedness matters on southern Vancouver Island, so it’s worth reviewing with your broker.

Earthquake coverage typically includes dwelling coverage to repair or rebuild your home, personal property coverage for belongings like electronics and furniture, and loss-of-use coverage for additional living expenses while your home is repaired.

Earthquake deductibles are often a percentage of your coverage limit rather than a fixed amount, so ask us to show you the dollar figure.

Can a Sooke broker help with insurance requirements for a business contract?

Send our team the contract’s insurance requirements, a description of the work and your start date. We can help review the requested limits and certificate details and identify what needs insurer approval. Getting in touch early gives you time to address any gaps.

What should I bring to my first meeting with a Sooke broker?

Have ready your current policy or renewal notice, the address or vehicle details involved, and your preferred start date. For a home purchase, bring any lender or strata requirements; for a business, bring a description of your work and any contract requirements. Still not sure what to bring? Just give us a call or fill out our online quote form and we'll walk you through it step by step!

Is Western Coast Insurance part of Western Financial Group?
