Western Coast helps change lives at Rainbow Kitchen Society
July 8, 2020
July 8, 2020. Our Eagle Creek and National Insurance Operations (NIO) team joined with our Western Coast Insurance Services Admirals Walk location to donate $1,300 to assist with feeding people in need during COVID-19.
A registered charity serving Greater Victoria, the Rainbow Kitchen Society provides nearly 100,000 meals each year with programs for hot breakfasts, lunches, youth dinners, agencies and schools etc.
Feeding the body and souls, this not-for-profit is a welcoming space for people in Esquimalt who require a helping hand, a healthy meal or access to food in places where scarcity is an issue.
Patrick Johnstone, the society’s director, explained their kitchen typically serves 100 people a day, yet the situation with COVID-19 has doubled the number of residents who require food assistance.
Our team was thrilled to see the Rainbow Kitchen volunteers happily greeting our neighbours in line.
With new safeguards to maintain health and wellness, we know their teams are working hard to distribute individual meals to people outside instead of their normal inside gatherings.
Our experts are proud to utilize the Community Food & Nutrition Emergency Fund program through our charitable arm, the Western Communities Foundation, for this donation.
“When the people waiting for their lunches saw us walk by with the big cheque, they stopped what they were doing, clapped and sent words of thanks and kindness,” Pam with our NIO team explained.
We won’t soon forget Patrick’s words when receiving the funds — this changes lives. Thank you again to all our people for coming together in support of the Rainbow Kitchen Society.
